Route 24 Alliance, Inc.
Sussex County, Delaware
Sussex County, Delaware
A small number of residents realized that Route 24 has become a poster child of a bad traffic situation in Sussex County and felt the need of a local group to defend our areas together. The Route 24 Alliance began as an unincorporated association of concerned citizens who are committed to monitoring and providing input to the County regarding proposed development along or near Rt. 24. Of particular concern are rezoning applications and Ordinances which would allow for greater building density, as these would likely have an adverse impact on the functionality of the Route 24 arterial roadway as it is classified by DelDOT and would negatively impact our quality of life.
Yes, there are some countywide organizations, such as Sussex Preservation Coalition or Sussex2030, but they cannot take on or tackle all the land use applications in the county. Nearby residents have the best understanding of the area's issues and have vested interests to fight land use cases which would affect our quality of life. Only when local residents are engaged in the opposition, can the countywide organizations help effectively. We hope Route 24 Alliance will inspire other local groups to form.
Route 24 Alliance became incorporated on 10/7//24. Route 24 Alliance Inc filed for our 501(c)4 status on 11/13/25. Donations are not usually tax deductable; consult your financial advisor. The Corporation is a nonprofit corporation operated exclusively for the promotion of social welfare. Our 501(c) 4 status allows us to engage in lobbying & political activities for the quality of life of those living/driving along Route 24. Although we filed our IRS 990 N form electronically on 1/30/26; as of 1/31/26 Route 24 Alliance Inc is not yet searchable on the IRS database.
Route 24 Alliance is not meant to be an ongoing active group, but rather a group that will be awakened when the need arises - in a reactive way. Having said that, we need a group of people who are actively engaged in assessing overall issues and proactively providing input to the County about land use proposals, particularly about zoning ordinance changes. Would you be interested in being a part of that group?
As you may have found from our website, we are trying to collect and disseminate information about what is going on along the Route 24 areas. To do this, we observe the County's hearing notices and the State's land use reviews. However, the eyes and ears of the community - the rumor mill - is often the best source of information we can get, sometimes years before any application is submitted. So, we ask you to open your ears and eyes and share with us what you notice.
We are also trying to engage HOAs and keep a list of their current contact information. If there is any need to inform the area residents for emergency situations or land use applications, the HOAs may be the best first line of contact.
Our website is still evolving. Let us know if you could help us with the website or have ideas of how we should organize our website.
